In this review, the author shows how you can decorate old metal doors so that they look beautiful and harmonize with the surrounding interior.
In order for the water-based paint to fit well on the metal surface, which is covered with alkyd enamel, it will be necessary to treat the doors with sandpaper.
Processing the door with sandpaper will allow you to make scratches on the surface of the metal, which will increase the adhesion between the two paints prepared on a different base.
To increase the adhesion of the surface, the door must be primed. For this, the author uses aerosol soil. The surface itself will first need to be degreased.
The main stages of work
After the primer has dried, you can start painting the door. As a basic dye, water-acrylic enamel is used.
You can also use water-based paint, if it is of good quality. Base paint is applied to the door surface with a roller in 1-2 layers.
At the next stage, we mix water-based varnish with color - there are no clear proportions, since in this case everything is done by eye.
On the painted surface of the door with a brush we make circles that will imitate the saw cut of a tree. This is convenient to do with a wide brush.
The final touch - and you're done
While the rounds are drying, the author with the help of a clerical knife cuts small cloves of different depths in a rubber spatula.
Then we apply the second layer of varnish with color, but already a darker shade, to the saw cuts of the tree. And with the help of a notched trowel we form the final pattern and cracks.
Next, paint the spaces between the cuts with gray paint (you can also choose a different color).
And at the last stage, it remains only to draw a rim around the circles, which will imitate the bark of a tree.
In this case, brown paint is used. And then we cover everything with varnish - two layers will be quite enough.
