To hold parts or workpieces during welding, it is very convenient to use a device called the "third hand", which greatly facilitates the work.

You can make this device yourself from the steering levers and metal plates. You will also need a G-shaped or F-shaped clamp.

A feature of this "third hand" is the presence of movable ball joints. Due to this, it is possible to fix the welded workpiece or part in different positions.

First of all, it will be necessary to remove the “apples” of the steering levers from the seat. To do this, use angle grinder.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, it will be necessary to cut off plates with a thickness of 8 mm and a length of about 70-80 mm. In the blanks you need to drill three holes.

The middle hole is 10 mm in diameter (then it is necessary to cut a thread under the bolt in it). Side holes - 14 mm in diameter.

The base is a metal square plate. You need to weld a piece of the tip with the "apple" to it. You also need to drill four more holes to secure the base to the table.

Then it will be necessary to weld four levers with each other, cutting off the extra length. In the clamp, the author makes a groove in which the tip with the "apple" is welded.

At the last stage, it remains only to clean all the details and paint. After that, you can begin to assemble the device.

Details on how to make a "third hand" for welding from automobile steering levers, you can see in the video on our website.
