In this review, the author shares his own experience on how to make a butt dovetail joint. This method can be used when joining two pieces of wood perpendicular to each other.
Surely, experienced craftsmen know (and even use) this method of joining wooden blanks. But for beginners and those who engage in carpentry on their own at home, this information can be useful.
First of all, in one of the blanks, the author selects a small rectangular groove with a chisel. For convenience, the workpiece can be fixed to the table with a clamp.
The main stages of work
After the groove of the necessary sizes is selected, the author fastens a piece of plexiglass on top of the workpiece. Then you need to make a spike on the second wooden blank. The spike should fit snugly into the groove.
Next, you need to use a chisel to give a rectangular groove a trapezoidal shape. In the second workpiece, you need to make two cuts with a hand hacksaw. Two wooden wedges are also required.
Well, then everything is simple: we insert the wedges into the cuts made in the tenon, then we drive the tenon into a groove. The wedges burst on the sides of the spike, as a result of which it takes the shape of a groove, and sits in it quite tightly.
