File blade with sleeve

Do you need to quickly make a cool knife, without using a hammer and anvil of a blacksmith? Then the option of making a blade from an old file with a handle from a sleeve is suitable for you. Making such a knife with your own hands is very simple. And in the presence of a certain skill a lot of time will not be required.

First of all, it is necessary to make markings on the surface of the old flat file, and with the help of a grinder with a cutting disc, we cut out the blank for the manufacture of the future blade. Contours can be drawn by hand or by a template that can be made from a sheet of paper.

After we cut the workpiece from the file, we process the blade on a belt-grinding machine (grinder). First, remove the bumps at the edges left by the grinder. Then you will need to trim the base of the tail. Next, we form the slopes of the blade.

The main stages of work

To separate the boundaries of the handle and blade, we will use a bolster. You can make this element from an ordinary coin (preferably yellow). We drill a through hole in a coin on a drilling machine. We finish the hole with a file to the required shape.

In a brass sleeve, which will be used as a handle, as well as in the tail of the workpiece, we drill a through hole. Pour epoxy glue into the sleeve and insert the tail of the workpiece into the handle, putting a bolster on it. Insert a rivet into the hole.
