Handmade knives always attract attention, especially if made from unusual materials - for example, from a motorcycle chain. Thanks to the use of a motorcycle chain, a very interesting pattern forms on the surface of the knife blade (no worse than on Damascus steel). Of course, you will have to work a little hammer to forge a knife, but the end result is worth it.
Please note that the blade of a motorcycle chain blade is difficult to sharpen sharply, since this metal contains little carbon. Therefore, in the process of manufacturing a homemade knife, it is additionally necessary to weld a cutting edge from a material more suitable for sharpening to the motorcycle chain.
A cool knife from a motorcycle chain: stages of work
First of all, we fold the motorcycle chain in three rows and weld the links together so that the base for the knife itself is sufficiently rigid. Four plates of durable tool steel are welded to the bottom of the workpiece. Then we heat the metal red-hot and with the help of a small sledgehammer or hammer we give the workpiece a rectangular shape.
At the next stage, draw the contours of the knife and cut the blade with a grinder. Then we finish it on a belt grinder and a hand file. In the tail part of the workpiece, we drill two holes and with the help of rivets from a steel bar we fasten the part of the motorcycle chain - the knife handle. We heat it red and give the desired shape.
