A metal vice made from pieces of corners and pieces of sheet metal is ideal for use in a small home workshop - and thanks to the universal design, they can be used as an addition to both a drilling and a milling machine.
The machine vice allows you to rigidly fix the workpieces made of metal or wood in the right position, which makes it possible to most accurately set the position of the working drill in relation to the part, and to drill a perfect even hole. In general, the thing is useful, and it is not necessary to buy a machine vice - you can easily make them yourself.
The main stages of work
First of all, we cut off the size of the workpiece from the steel corner 45x45 mm. In total, four blanks are required, from which you need to weld a rectangular frame. Please note that long segments are installed with the edge inward, and short ones with the edge outward. We expose them at an angle of 90 degrees and weld.
At the next stage of work, another frame with a rectangular hole in the middle is welded from two corners and two pieces of strip, which is installed on top of the base of the vise and is rigidly fixed using arc or semi-automatic welding.
Further, two jaws are made from the corners: the fixed jaw is mounted on the edge of the base, and the second is movable, and "joins" with the screw. Before welding the main elements, do not forget to check the right angle with a square. Another corner is welded on the opposite side of the base, in which you need to drill a hole for the screw.
Then we clean the places of welds, degrease and paint the surface of the parts, and then proceed to the assembly of the machine vice. The process of manufacturing a vice for a drilling machine, see this video.
